Calculate paddock area in hectares (or acres) from its length and width.
Area in hectares = length × width (in metres) ÷ 10,000. An 800 m × 500 m paddock is 40 ha (about 99 acres).
A hectare is 10,000 m², so multiply the two sides in metres and divide by 10,000. For irregular paddocks, split them into rectangles and triangles and add the parts.
800 m × 500 m = 400,000 m² ÷ 10,000 = 40 ha, which is roughly 98.8 acres.
Assumes a rectangular paddock measured along the ground. Sloping country has slightly more surface area than its map (plan) area; for stocking and inputs the plan area is what you want.
10,000 m². That's why you divide length × width (in metres) by 10,000 to get hectares.
